UK Prime Minister Final Race; Who will win Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak?

The United Kingdom will get a successor of current Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday, September 5, 2022. The conservative party Tory Leadership election voting has already finished, and the new Prime Minister’s identity will announce very soon.

According to official reports, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is unofficially considered a winner of the UK Prime Minister Race. Let’s find out who will be Britain’s next Prime Minister.

Will Liz Truss be Britain’s Next Prime Minister?

Currently, many news sites highlight that Liz Truss’ winning probability has increased, and she is set to be the new UK Prime Minister. In contrast, her fellow contender and former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak’s winning probability declined at the final voting time.

Liz Truss has a 96.3% probability with 113 final ballots. He has only a 4% winning chance, with 137 final ballots. Nearly 69% of party members supported her on the poll, whereas only 31% supported Sunak.
Liz Truss is responsible for a new draft law that will rewrite UK’s deal with the EU on Northern Ireland.

She is experienced and has served as foreign secretary since 2021. She was loyal to Johnson in his final weeks, earning her the support of Boris Johnson’s die-hard supporters.

Earlier, she faced backlash from her supporters at a TV debate when she opted to impose corporate taxes. Sunak won the debate at that time, becoming among UK’s supporters. However, now She seems to have come back to the game and regained supporters from party members. Her main idea is to impose taxes to increase economic growth to combat with upcoming recession.

Earlier in July, eight contenders were nominated for Britain’s Prime Minister race after Johnson’s reassignment after several controversies and sexual misconduct. Here are the six nominees who did not reach till final voting round.

  • Kemi Badenoch is the State Minister for Local Government, Faith, and Communities, eliminated after the fourth ballot.
  • Suella Braverman is England and Wales’ Attorney General, eliminated after the second ballot; endorsed Liz Truss.
  • Jeremy Hunt, who is a Health and Social Care chair eliminated after the first battle, endorsed Rishi Sunak.
  • Penny Mordaunt is the State Minister for Trade Policy, eliminated after the fifth ballot; endorsed Liz Truss.
  • Tom Tugendhat: Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, eliminated after the third ballot, endorsed Liz Truss.
  • Nadim Zahawi: Chancellor of Exchequer, eliminated after the first ballot; endorsed Liz Truss.
