Paul Joseph Martin was born in Elk River, Minnesota, US on March 5, 1981. Paul born in a Christian family. He grew up with younger sister, Leah and a younger brother, James Neal. His father Dale helped him to join Hockey as career.
When Martin was in High School at Elk River High School, he used to play hockey from school side and awarded as winner. He helped his school team to win the 2002 and 2003 NCAA Division I National Championship. There is no fix words that denotes martin joined any University for his higher study but it is said that he played for University of Minnesota for three years as defender.
Paul Martin began with the Devils played 70 games in his first full season and putting 24 points for the 2003-2004 season. Due to the 2004-2005 NHL lockout, martin played for Fribourg-Gottern in Switzerland on his next season.
Paul Martin played the entire 82 game season during the 2006-2007 season. And suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left forearm beside this, playing only 22 games and scoring a career-low 11 points.
On 7th October, 2010, he debut from Pittsburgh Penguins and played against the Philadelphia Flyers, picking up the primary assist on Tyler Kennedy’s third period goal where the Penguins’ first ever reached at the Console Energy Center. Soon he was back with his former team and finished the game with 3-1 Penguins victory with 26 min remaining.
On 13th April, 2012, Paul scored his first Stanley Cup Playoff goal with the Penguins alongside the Philadelphia Flyers with the close loss of 8-5.
Paul Martin made his name to the Team USA for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Turin and also for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, along with then Devils teammates Zach Parise and Jamie Langenbrunner. But martin missed the 2010 Winter Olympics due to broken arm; he was substituted in the latter tournament by Tim Gleason.
Paul Martin signed with San Joe Sharks on 1st July 2015 where he lost with his former team, the Penguins in the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals. And after two years, Sharks assigned martin to their American Hockey League which affiliate the San Jose Barracuda.
After his well performance through the decade with different clubs, he announced his retirement on 14th November 2018.
